Homes England is a Non-Departmental Government Body with a remit to deliver housing and unlock land where the market cannot, in order to build more homes where they are needed.
Our role is to ensure more people have access to better quality homes in the right places, and to make this happen we intervene in the housing market, working with partners to get more homes built where and when needed.
This includes acquiring stalled sites that are subject to market failure, such as Bluecoat Park, whereby existing planning permissions aren’t implemented owing to various issues.
We are one of the Government’s largest landowners. Our ambition is to generate additional land supply for housing and to enable partners to build better quality homes.
Who are Homes England?
In practice this means the following:
We bring forward sites that would otherwise remain undeveloped;
We add value to sites through our planning and enabling work to deliver housing completions on sites and drive value for the public purse;
We sell our own land and partner across the public sector;
We are not a standard developer – we have a much wider remit: we design, de-risk and deliver sites to the market and then control their development to ensure quality, pace and design are delivered;
We act as a master developer on larger sites and create great new communities; and
We challenge housebuilders to be create better designed quality homes, utilise Modern Methods of Construction (MMC), and build homes faster.
